Miriam Elliot is born in Paysandú, Uruguay, on 23rd January 1958.
The passion for drawing and painting reveals itself precociously and determines the direction of Miriam’s studies; in 1977 she gets her diploma with specialization in Architecture; at the same time, she has studied, for nine years, Piano at the Conservatoire. Then she enters the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes in Montevideo and in 1979-80 she is awarded a scholarship to attend the Academia de Bellas Artes in Barcelona (Spain).
After her return to Uruguay, she takes part, in 1990, in many Painting Prizes, getting remarkable awards, and she carries out an intense activity in the field of drawing for fabrics, which are realized into dresses being presented in fashion parades.
She holds her first solo-exhibition at the Casa del Libro, Ministry of Culture, Montevideo, which is followed by other solo and group exhibits: among the former, we can recall the exhibitions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Montevideo in 1998 and in 2001 (Patio Colonial, Palacio Santos), and the show at the Argentine Consulate in Colonia del Sacramento (Uruguay) in 2004; among the latter, we have at least to instance the exhibition, with other South American artists, at the Centro Bera Berit in Montevideo, in 1995. All over these years, besides devoting herself to painting, Miriam Elliot cooperates with architects in the activity of interior decoration, realizing paintings and ceramics on commission.
In 2006, also to follow her daughter’s activity, dancer, Miriam moves to Reggio Emilia (Italy), where she resumes painting with special intensity and creative happiness.
